Design and Technology

The following artifacts have been included to illustrate the development of my ideas and understanding of purposeful design in curriculum planning and technology integration. Technology was once used as a replacement for certain components of the classroom. Overhead projectors and dry-erase boards replaced the antiquated chalkboard; no more slapping erasers to clean them after school. Fax, text messages, and emails have mostly replaced the tried and true Post, and Pony Express, while laptops and smartphones have replaced cumbersome desktop computers and microfiche. Education is slowly embracing the utilization of technology as a way to facilitate learning, demonstrate learning, and allow teachers and students to access and share information in ways never before possible. These artifacts show a marked progression in the planning and usage of technology in my own practice.

A Quick Alternative to Visually Demonstrate Learning

This assignment, which was created for secondary Geometry students, provides a digital alternative to present learning. Utilizing Pixton, students synthesize knowledge of Geometry vocabulary, logical (if, then) statements, and creative story writing to construct a digital comic strip. This alternative to a traditional pencil-and-paper product allows students to showcase their learning in a well-organized, visually appealing, and professional exhibition which can later be incorporated into their e-portfolio. The use of this web tool affords students an option to exercise their digital expertise, and creativity in an economical, expeditious fashion. For this reason, I have included this artifact in "Design and Technology.

Technology Integration to Support Learning

I created this (and other) Geometry videos using YouTube to provide review or first-time instruction for my students. I continue to use this channel to create content to support, reinforce, and remediate my students' learning. This resource demonstrates one application of technology integration to support the curriculum and my students' learning, and can be used in any classroom, or educational setting.

For the library, potential use for this learning format is providing students and teachers with references for writing, research, and copyright/fair use, which can be made available through the library website or LMS (Learning Management System). I chose this item to showcase intentional design and use of technology to support the learning community in a way that is customizable and convenient.

My Thoughts-

Educational Technology Integration

I am attaching a link to the blog that I have added to during my time in the TAMU-Commerce program. This blog reflects my evolution of thoughts and considerations of possible uses of technology in the classroom. The development of these thoughts will aid me in my professional librarian journey, by allowing me to develop teachers' understanding of the biggest question about educational technology; "How do I use this in my lesson"

Motivating Students with Highly Interactive Tech Tools

This resource was created to introduce teachers to the "Book Creator" app. This presentation outlines the functionality of the application so that teachers can brainstorm possible uses and integration into their classrooms. I have used this particular option in my own classroom and was pleasantly surprised about my students' enthusiasm for participation, collaboration, and exploration. I have chosen to include this introduction as a  representation of my evolving ideas about intentionally integrating technology to allow students to demonstrate learning in a student-led, technology-centric classroom.
